And I just sat there thinking, huh. When was the last time I actually updated this? It still sounded like me from two years ago, back when I thought “lifestyle blogger” meant I had to have my whole life figured out before I hit publish.

Spoiler: I don’t. And honestly, that’s kind of the point of this whole little corner of the internet I’ve built.

So today I want to pull back the curtain a bit. Not just on me, but on all those unglamorous pages we all click past — the disclaimers, the privacy stuff, the terms nobody reads. Because here’s the thing I’ve learned the hard way: those boring pages? They’re actually love letters to you, the reader.

The Day I Realized Nobody Reads the Fine Print (Including Me)

A few months ago, a sweet reader named Dana emailed me asking whether a supplement I’d mentioned in a post was something I actually trusted, or whether it was a sponsored thing. And I felt this little pang, because I realized I’d linked to it casually without ever explaining my relationship to it. Was it a gift? An affiliate link? Something I’d bought with my own money at Target at 9pm because I was tired? She had no way of knowing.

That email changed how I think about transparency. It’s not about legal jargon. It’s about respect. When you land on my site, you deserve to know:

Who I am and why I’m writing about any of this

Whether I make money from something I recommend (yes, sometimes — and I’ll always say so)

What happens to your email if you sign up for my newsletter (short version: I guard it like my grandma’s cookie recipe)

How to reach me if something feels off or you just want to say hi

None of that is glamorous. But it’s the difference between a blogger who sees you as a person and one who sees you as a click.

Why I Finally Updated All Those “Boring” Pages

Here’s a confession: for the first year of this site, my terms and privacy pages were basically copy-pasted templates I didn’t fully understand. I kept telling myself I’d “get to them later.” Later turned into never, until a friend who works in tech gently pointed out that my cookie policy was so vague it might as well have said “we use cookies, probably, somewhere.”

Yikes.

So I sat down with a giant iced coffee and rewrote everything with actual humans in mind. And I noticed something funny — the more honest I got, the less intimidating the pages felt. My disclaimer page now literally starts with “Let’s keep this simple.” My privacy page explains that I use analytics to see which posts you love so I can write more of them — not to stalk you around the internet. My affiliate disclosure says, plainly, that if you buy through one of my links, I might earn a few dollars toward my next coffee, and it never costs you a cent more.

It’s wild how much lighter it feels to just say the truth out loud.

I also added a proper contact page, which sounds obvious, but for the longest time I had my email buried in a footer like a secret. Now it’s right there. Because if you’re going to spend your precious scrolling time here, the least I can do is make it easy to talk back.

The Takeaway I Keep Coming Back To

I think we’ve all been trained to treat the fine print like vegetables — something we push around the plate. But the older I get, the more I believe that trust is built in the boring moments. The way someone handles your email address. The way they tell you when they’re being paid. The way they admit what they don’t know.

I don’t have a perfect site. I still find typos from 2022. But I do try to be the kind of blogger I’d want to follow — one who treats you like a friend who dropped by for coffee, not a metric to optimize.

If you ever read something here and feel confused, or you’re not sure whether I’m being upfront about something, please just ask. Truly. My inbox is open, and I read every message myself.

Because at the end of the day, this little website isn’t really about me. It’s about us figuring things out together — the recipes, the routines, the messy middle of real life. And I’d rather do that with the lights on.

Thanks for being here. 🤍

I was scrolling through my own site the other day — you know, that rabbit hole where you start checking one little thing and suddenly an hour has vanished — and I landed on my “About” page.
